On March 4, 2024, Anthropic launched the Claude 3 family: Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku.
Three models
Opus was the most powerful model, Sonnet the balanced mid-tier, and Haiku the fastest and most affordable. All three were multimodal and could process both text and images.
Why it mattered
Claude 3 firmly established Anthropic as a serious challenger and introduced strong performance on long documents and reasoning.
