Apple gives developers access to the on-device AI model via the Foundation Models framework.
On June 9, 2025, Apple announced the Foundation Models framework at WWDC, allowing developers to directly access the on-device AI model powering Apple Intelligence.

Apps can leverage AI offline, quickly, and privacy-friendly without the cloud. Apple also demonstrated live translation in Messages, FaceTime, and phone calls.

While competitors focus on large cloud models, Apple opts for compact models running on the device itself.
