Claude 3.5 Sonnet outperforms Claude 3 Opus and later introduces 'computer use'.
On June 20, 2024, Anthropic released Claude 3.5 Sonnet. The mid-tier model outperformed the previous flagship Claude 3 Opus, at lower cost and higher speed.
Faster and smarter
3.5 Sonnet excelled at coding, reasoning, and image understanding. Anthropic also introduced 'Artifacts', a workspace alongside the conversation.
Computer use
Later in 2024, the model gained 'computer use': the ability to operate a computer on its own — an early step toward AI agents.
